Bio

David J. Carney, Esquire, a partner at Green & Schafle in Philadelphia for more than six years, serves as President of the Vaccine Injured Petitioners (VIP) Bar Association. He has been dedicated to advocating for individuals severely impacted by vaccine-related injuries before the United States Court of Federal Claims since 2010.

He has secured significant results for his clients, including victories in complex matters such as a chronic idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) case following influenza vaccination and a dermatomyositis case after flu vaccination. His practice spans a wide range of vaccine-related injuries, including Guillain–Barré Syndrome, chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP), transverse myelitis, encephalitis, polymyositis, lupus, optic neuritis, brachial neuritis, aplastic anemia, Bell’s palsy, and SIRVA (shoulder injury related to vaccine administration). Having a sister who suffered from Guillain–Barré Syndrome, David approaches these cases with not only professional knowledge but also personal familiarity with the devastating impact these conditions can have on individuals and families.

David is also a recognized leader in the broader legal community. He has served on the Executive Board of the VIP Bar Association since 2017 and was elected President in 2023. He routinely gives lectures and presentations at American Association for Justice and VIP Bar Association conferences, where he shares his expertise on vaccine injury litigation, trial advocacy, and client representation. His professional recognition includes being named to Super Lawyers Rising Stars® each year from 2015 through 2024, selection to The National Trial Lawyers 40 Under 40 in 2015, and recognition as a Super Lawyer® in 2025. He is also the author of all six editions of The Legal Intelligencer’s Pennsylvania Causes of Action, a reference widely relied upon by practitioners across the Commonwealth.

He earned his B.A. in Political Science, with a minor in Business Law, from Pennsylvania State University before obtaining his J.D. from Widener University School of Law (now Delaware Law School), where he served on the Law Review and was recognized as a Widener Scholar. David continues to mentor law students and new attorneys, reflecting his commitment to strengthening the bar and advancing access to justice.
