The VIP Bar Association announces that Special Master Gowen will retire from the Office of Special Masters effective March 3, 2026.

Special Master Gowen has served with distinction in the Office of Special Masters since his appointment on March 3, 2014, presiding over vaccine injury compensation cases filed under the National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act. Throughout his tenure, he has overseen complex medical and legal proceedings, conducted evidentiary hearings, resolved expert disputes, and issued well-reasoned decisions addressing entitlement, damages, and attorney’s fees. His professionalism, diligence, and commitment to fair adjudication have contributed meaningfully to the administration of justice within the Vaccine Program.

The United States Court of Federal Claims has announced a vacancy for one Special Master position in the Office of Special Masters (Announcement No. OSM-2026-01-SM).
